Photos filming for 'Hinterland Water'

Pictures took during filming

Here are some pictures that were took during the day while filming for my short video and also some still shots from the film.

'Hinterland Water' Assembly Edit

My Assembly Edit of 'Hinterland Water'

As director, I have to make an assembly edit of my film. It took me time to do as I am not used to editing but I got there at the end and I really enjoyed putting this film together. As it is only an assembly edit, I had to just put the scenes and audio together but when I make the proper edit of this film, it would look much better as I would be adding possible a bit of music, titles, transitions etc to make it look more interesting and also it's a plot twist towards the end as the audience would think they are watching a remake of an opening scene of Hinterland but actually turns into an advert.

Due to blogger not letting my upload my assembly edit on here for some reason, my edited version will be on either disk or memory stick handed in to Dave.

'Hinterland Water' Final Script

Final Script

Due to changing the script on the day, I have added in what has been said in my film. I have used Liam as my voice over to be the advertiser, advertising the water bottle at the end.

Project 4 - 'HinterLand Water' Anlaysis

HinterLand Water

Here is a list of who's in my group and the roles within the group for this project.

My group:
Director - Kimberly McClarnan
Lights/Boom Operator - Rhianwen Davies
Camera Operator - Liam King
Production Sound Mixer - Emily Barresi

Actors:
Detective - Eduardo

Director -
For my role as director, I was in charge of everything. I really enjoyed being director and coming up with different ideas as it's very creative and also it made my feel more confident in telling people what to do. My first thought was to film the part where the detective goes in his room and thought we would use Emily room in Mount Pleasant Halls but then we realised that her room was too girly and small to film so instead we went in her kitchen to film. The kitchen was a better idea to film as it was very messy and in the scene in Hinterland, his caravan was also very messy. We followed the plan and also took a few extra different shots to see how it would go and what it would look like in the edit. After we finished filming in the kitchen, we headed outside to film Eduardo running through Mount Pleasant Campus back to his front door. We were very lucky with the weather as it was raining slightly in the afternoon but the time we went out to film, the weather change and it was lovely. From some shots we took, we had changed the scene slightly as one of the shots after Eduardo speaks on this phone, he looks straight into the camera giving a 'Zoolander' look which made us all laugh and made me think that we could do a plot twist and actually turn this into an advert (which was my first original plan and idea) at the end and the audience wouldn't expect it to happen. We had Liam doing a voiceover at the end advertising 'Hinterland Water' which we all found good and funny to do for our final film.

Overall Performance -
In my opinion, I really enjoyed directing and enjoyed the day filming for this. We all followed the plan I made and all helped eachother out. As I said, from doing this it has given me more confidence and ideas to look further into for next year when we do more stuff like this as groups or individually. The only thing I couldn't decide on was to actually make the scene from Hinterland or change it slightly towards the end for when Eduardo did that look which made us all laugh and gave me an idea to change it into an advert which I did as that was my first plan of doing an advert for this. Everyone in my group worked well on their role and I was very happy on how it all ended up and resulted.

Problems? -
There were a few problems during this as we were supposed to have another boy to act but he had to drop out so I asked around and luckily enough Eduardo was available to help us out. When we were filming in the kitchen, it took a lot of time as it was pretty hard for Liam to film as there wasn't much space so he had to sit up on the units to check if the shot in focus etc. As the whole scene in the kitchen took a while it resulted in losing time and Eduardo had to go in a certain time so the running scene we had to rush a bit and we couldn't go where we originally planned to go film as it was quite a long walk so we just ended up filming him running through Mount Pleasant campus looking like he's had a long run and going back to his room.

Risk Assessment

Risk Assessment while filming

While filming for my short one minute film, I picked out a few points which could be dangerous. I wrote down some points and when I got home I downloaded a template and filled in a risk assessment form which is very important. The reason why it's important and need is because they form an integral part of a good occupational health and safety management plan. They help to create awareness of hazards and risks during my set. Identify who may be at risk are employees, cleaners, visitors, contractors, the public, etc.

Final Film - Hinterland Script

Hinterland Script

When making a film or Tv programme, we all must upload a script onto here. In the opening scene of Hinterland, only one thing is been said but I thought I should upload it onto here as it will be important. At the moment, I am keeping the scene simple and short like the one on Hinterland, but I may add in few more lines in for the script if it goes to plan.

Final Film - Plan

My Plan

As director, I have made a plan which consists off who doing what in my group, the location, the actor, what scene we are doing, sounds and most importantly the shot types that I want when we shoot the film very soon. It is very important to make a plan to have and to give it to my group on the day because we all know then what my plan is and what exactly I want and hopefully it will be quickly made as I have already listed the shot types I want in order so hopefully if we all follow the plan, it would turn out great for us all.
